Real Quality Costs Quality

Quality…that’s the ticket. Everything has to be the highest quality:

  • our Sunday experience
  • our programs
  • our outreach
  • our facility

We cannot sacrifice quality….or can we? Wait…wrong question. What I mean to say is…should we?

Believe me when I say I both understand and appreciate striving for excellence in everything we do. But, as leaders, one of our greatest responsibilities is to multiply ourselves by empowering others to lead. Sometimes that may mean we have to allow for “excellence” to slip to “good enough” for a time.

  • our music may not be the best while we’re empowering a new worship leader
  • our programs may struggle as new leaders cut their teeth
  • our outreach may miss the mark a couple of times while a new outreach director finds his/her footing

Sure…we may lose a little quality for a time. But, what we get in return are quality leaders…and that is the quality that will stand the test of time.

How Many Crayons Are in Your Box?

What person doesn’t like to color? There’s just something about taking a plain piece of paper or even one with a blank outline and turning it into a work of art.

One of the first fundamentals you learn about coloring is that it takes a lot of different crayons to make a pretty picture. You need blue for the sky…green for the grass…brown for the trees…and a wide variety of multicolor splashes for everything else. Whatever the scheme…one thing is certain…you get a really boring picture if you only have one crayon in your box.

So, when did we forget that fundamental truth in our churches? Why is it that Sunday is still the most segregated day of the week? When did we move from the Biblical principal of unity to this “unity by ethnicity” that we have settle for in the body of Christ today?

I grew up in a “white” church. I’ve been to a “black” church. Both…very monochromatic. But, a church truly filled with diversity…a church where people of every creed and color can be found huddled together in groups, doing life together, worshipping God together…now that’s a pretty picture.

So how many crayons are in your box?

4 Things You SHOULD take

When it comes to relationships, there are basically two types of people:  GIVERS & TAKERS

Life is the basic difference. Takers take life from others. Givers give life TO others. Obviously, we should all strive to be givers in our relationships. But there are some things we should take when it comes to people:

  • TAKE A CHANCE – Step out on a limb with people who are different from you. You never know who your next friend might be.
  • TAKE THE TIME – Your time is the most valuable resource you have. To get the greatest return, always invest in people.
  • TAKE AN INTEREST – Know what matters to people and make sure it matters to you.
  • TAKE A CHILL PILL- Don’t let past disappointments keep you from future relationships.

That’s my list. What else would you add?
