I remember when my wife and I began house hunting several years ago. We both had in our minds things we were looking for…things we wanted our new home to have. So, we started the search. After multiple homes and nothing really suiting our fancy, we finally arrived at what is now our house. I remember looking around and thinking, “This isn’t too bad. It doesn’t have x or y or z…but it’s not bad.” I wasn’t completely sold on the house, but we both kinda liked it and the price was right…so…we bought it. The result…we have a nice house. But, I can’t help wondering if we missed out on the perfect house because we settled for this one.
Have you ever settled for something because either it was good enough or you just didn’t feel like waiting or looking any longer? It is so easy to settle instead of pursuing the promise. I think about Abraham’s father, Terah. Scripture tells us that he took his family and was headed for the land of Canaan…the land that was later promised to Abraham. But on the way there, Genesis 11:31 tells us, “they stopped at Haran and settled there.” They STOPPED MOVING and SETTLED.
Now, I can’t say for sure…but, I wonder if God had made a similar promise to Terah. I wonder if God had told him to move to this promised land. I wonder if along the way, things got too hard or he just got tired…and he stopped moving with God. And, the moment he stopped, he settled for less than God’s best.
We must never stop moving with God. The moment we stop moving is the moment we settle for less than what He has promised us. We cannot grow weary. We cannot get too comfortable with “good enough”. We need to move on to the best…move on to the promise. Why would se settle for anything less?
Good word there bro!
Thanks, Artie!
What a great reminder to me as a leader of a church and also as I’m in the process of house-selling and house-hunting, too.
Thanks and happy hunting.
I am so proud of you! You are showing so much growth and maturity in the Lord! You are right …keep moving strong in God’s direction. He has some great things in store for you!
Thanks, Mrs. Darlene!
